At Coryell Roofing, we understand the critical role perception plays in establishing and maintaining trust, especially in the education sector. It’s not just about being seen as a contractor; it’s about being recognized as a reliable resource for schools, districts, and educational associations. Our focus on loss prevention reinforces this perception. If we were merely seen as profit-driven or akin to fly-by-night storm chasers, our reputation—and the trust educational communities place in us—would be severely compromised.
A Shift Towards Quality, Risk Mitigation, and Trust
Recognizing this, we launched an ambitious campaign last year aimed at enhancing awareness around risk mitigation within the Education Community. Our goal? To transform the industry’s approach from one predominantly concerned with immediate gains to one focused on long-term quality and reliability. This shift is vital, as the traditional short-sighted roofing practices prevalent in the South have led to increased insurance premiums, frequent classroom disruptions, and significant damage to the credibility of manufacturers and contractors alike.
Bridging the Gap with Decision Makers
Our campaign has already started to redefine the narrative. We’re seeing Risk Pools, Associations, and School Districts paying attention and actively engaging with our Loss Prevention message. This engagement is crucial, as historically, roofing contractors offered little beyond competitive pricing. Now, we’re steering the conversation towards quality and sustainability, which in turn enhances Loss Prevention, a shift that’s resonating strongly, particularly in Texas. The introduction of a new Member Plan language by TASB, which includes Very Severe Hail Rated roof system specifications, is a testament to this change. The Real Decision Makers: School Boards
However, one crucial aspect of our approach needs to shift. While superintendents and CFOs are influential, the ultimate decisions often rest with the School Boards. These boards, elected similarly to political positions, are only sometimes initially knowledgeable in the specialized area of school maintenance needs. Therefore, educating School Board Members on the importance of Loss Prevention is paramount.
Strengthening Partnerships
Our recent meeting with the Oklahoma State School Boards Association (OSSBA) underscored this point. OSSBA, which encompasses all Oklahoma public schools and career tech communities, is a powerful ally in our mission. They have embraced our vision, recognizing the need for a robust educational platform on Loss Prevention targeted at School Board Members. Plans are underway for a panel presentation where we can share success stories and insights, potentially impacting thousands of key decision-makers across the state.
A Call to Action
The response to our initiatives across various states has been overwhelmingly positive, but much work still needs to be done. We must continue to engage with school board associations actively and ensure that every school board in every district hears our message about loss prevention.
The Path Forward
As we progress, I urge all Coryell Roofing team members and our education partners to rally behind this cause. It’s not merely about adapting to industry changes—it’s about setting new standards and leading by example. Let’s think creatively about reaching more school board members and reinforcing our commitment to high-quality, sustainable roofing solutions prioritizing the educational community’s needs.
Together, we can transform the landscape of educational roofing, ensuring that our schools are safe, secure, and optimally covered—literally and figuratively.
Thank you for your dedication to this cause. Let’s make a lasting impact!
